Engineering Dynamics Consultants Pty. Ltd. (EDC) commenced trading in July 1995 and is a West Australian owned and operated company. The two principal engineers, Mark Thrift and Stuart Herrald, collectively have over 45 years of experience in the fields of dynamics and vibration.

Our philosophy...

Optimum solution to any problem often relies on a thorough knowledge of both analytical modelling and physical measurement. Any solution must be practical and achievable.

Design assessment and review ;

We believe that the knowledge that has been gained through extensive test and analysis of existing machines and structures provides a solid foundation upon which new or existing designs can be assessed. Significant experience correlating test data with numerical analysis has given us insight into realistic loading and boundary conditions, and a sound engineering basis to assess outcomes.

With these in mind ;

We have a strong basis of field test experience backed up by the latest multi-channel data acquisition systems, transducers (vibration, noise, pressure and strain) and data processing software, and;

We make extensive use of numerical analysis tools such as the Finite Element software (ANSYS and I-DEAS) for advanced structural analysis and dynamic simulations.

Mark Thrift

Mechanical Engineer - EDC Principal

Mark managed a dynamics consulting group in Melbourne until he moved to Perth in May 1993. He is a Mechanical Engineer by profession, and graduated from Monash University. He has consulted in the field of dynamics for more than 26 years. Over this time Mark has been heavily involved in structural dynamics with a strong emphasis on the application of experimental and analytical methods such as Modal Analysis, Stress measurement, Finite Element Analysis, Statistical Energy analysis, Machine Condition Monitoring, and other similar techniques in the resolution of dynamics and vibration problems. His experience covers a wide field of industry which includes mining and resource, energy, defense, automotive and manufacturing.

Stuart Herrald

Mechanical Engineer - EDC Principal

Stuart has over 20 years of experience in the area of computer simulation and structural dynamics. Stuart joined EDC in 2000 after developing and managing a small dynamics group in Perth. His range of experience is extensive, with an emphasis on mining equipment and bulk handling machinery. He has operated the simulation and design software I-DEAS continuously over his professional career, applied on a wide range of strength, fatigue and vibration related problems.
